Here lies another example of why artistic education is not good for me. Unlike the art school I did in 2006, I found that, this time around my educators were far too lax. There is a somewhat sadistic part in me that needs someone to critique my art and tell me that it's bollocks.

In the painting classes I took, everything of everyone's was good, because all art is unique and should be praised. I only partially agree with this, but I am a snob when it comes to artists who have no interest in bettering their own technique.

So, until I can find an educational method that strikes a balance between challenging, creative and technical, (but not overly so) I will keep battling it out on my own.

That being said, I'm happy at where I am at the moment in what I'm making. However, I am struggling with finding a good method for digital art, to turn out a good stream of quality work. At the moment, about 70% of my work gets closed without being saved, because I will sink 6 hours into drawing something, and then realise that it is utter bollocks. That being said, the stuff that does make it past my internal censor is getting better, and I see an improvement in my work over the last few years, especially in the last six months or so. For quite a while, from around 2005 to mid 2007, I was concerned that even though I was churning out a fair amount of work, I wasn't actually getting any better at my craft. Now, I think I am.

That being said, my artistic productivity is fairly low, and I am struggling to find something to do with the art I am producing for myself. I think I might save up a little money and put in an application to Watt Space to get rid of some of it. That being said, I have a fair number of artworks that have not been photographed. I don't think I have photographed a traditional artwork since Christmas 2006, with the exception of in progress shots.

Send me a note if you want anything artistic at all, I'll consider it and we'll have a bit of a chat-ette. I do requests only if I actually want to do it, unless it's dead boring and there's money involved, in which case it's not a request anyway.

Artistic Schooling

Well, I'm studying art again, which is good, though you should all be prepared for an influx of work that is mostly bollocks, as they get us to draw with sticks and ink onto newspaper.
This should be a positive thing for my art making. Over the last number of months, I have had absolutely no inspiration for creating art past pathetic doodles. This is frustrating, but it is going to change. I've started reading books again, with subjects that aren't absolute bilge. I am in a place where I can bounce ideas of other like minded people, I get to draw from nude models. I'm very excited for the next four years, and at the end of it I will know without a doubt whether I actually have the right things I need to be happy with myself as an artist. I will also have a degree in Education, so I'll be a teacher.

I figure that it's about time I gave a heads up to the journal readers around here, considering I update my lj every other day.
Artistically, things are good. I'm working on two sets, people in nice places with good contacts enjoy seeing my work, and I get to come to an agreement about the simplicity, understanding and absolute absurdity of good art with old friends.
I have a decent number of projects I'm working on at the moment, I'm smoking less than normal due to having no tangible way to get out of the house, and I enjoy being optimistic about what's coming up. On the side, I'm also donating my services to two other places, but I'll update those depending on how successful they are.

It's Pixels, It's Madness! It's Pix

Journal Entry: Tue Sep 11, 2007, 6:51 AM

I am at war.
I am a sniper, picking off little square black bastards with a sharp click.
Click. Gone.
Click. Another.
Click. One More.
And with the thousands of angry black dots against me, I am winning, alone on the top of my little tower.
I still don't know what to think of pixel art, but I don't think I'd be doing it right now if there wasn't something to achieve at the end. Pixel art isn't something I'd do because it's relaxing. I find it nerve wracking, all of that black and white, and close up little squares.
So that that, and that and that!

Thanks John :D

By the way, if you're wondering where the art is, check my scraps for new bits and pieces.

Also, John got my 1000th pageview on DA. Go him!

Two remodeled bedrooms, a bunch of work at the moment, diet, very tires, can't sleep, five thirty in the morning, things to do, letters to write, not feeling so awesome.
What a shame.
